Job summary

Southeast Health is seeking a Lab Assistant for the 3rd shift to join our hospital laboratory team. You will perform phlebotomy, specimen labeling, STAT draw prioritization, and assist with accessioning and routine lab tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities include transporting specimens, using the LIS software, and contributing to a clean, safe work area. Prior phlebotomy experience and certification eligibility with the National Phlebotomy Association are preferred.

Qualifications

• Equivalent of four years of high school education preferred
• One year of full time experience preferred
• Certification eligible with a National Phlebotomy Association preferred
• Proficient in LIS Accessioning and Reference Laboratory Send-outs

Responsibilities

• Performs phlebotomy (venipuncture, fingerstick, heelstick, and bleeding time) according to established procedure
• Identifies patients and properly labels specimen tubes
• Determines priority of STAT draws; ensures timely transport of all patient specimens to lab for testing
• Utilizes computers in completing assigned functions and organizes workload
• Helps co-workers and communicates with lab departments to ensure orderly workflow
• Under supervision, assists in training new employees and student interns in phlebotomy duties
• Follows all safety policies and exposure control plans
• Reads changes in assignment and adapts accordingly
• Maintains a respectful, professional environment with patients and staff
• Acts as receptionist when required and maintains department cleanliness
