Job summary

Southeast Health is hiring a Laboratory Assistant for the 3rd shift in the hospital laboratory. The role performs phlebotomy, accessioning, and related non-technical duties across hospital, outpatient, and off-site services.

Responsibilities include patient identification, proper labeling, STAT draw prioritization, and timely specimen transport. Training of new staff may be required, along with adherence to safety and lab procedures.

Qualifications

• Equivalent of four years of high school education preferred.
• One year of full-time experience preferred.
• Certification eligible with National Phlebotomy Association preferred.
• Proficient in LIS Accessioning and Reference Laboratory Send-outs.

Responsibilities

• Performs phlebotomy (venipuncture, fingerstick, heelstick, and bleeding time) per procedure.
• Identifies patients and labels specimen tubes accurately.
• Determines priority of STAT draws and ensures timely transport to lab.
• Uses computers to complete assigned tasks and track workload statistics.
• Trains new employees and interns under supervision; follows safety policies.
• Maintains department safety, equipment cleanliness, and proper biohazard practices.
