Job summary

Eastern New Mexico Medical Center seeks an ER Registrar to manage patient intake and registration in the Emergency Department, gathering and verifying personal, insurance, and medical information while ensuring accuracy and confidentiality of patient records.

This role requires strong communication, customer service, and familiarity with insurance verification and EHR systems to support efficient department operations and high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in medical office administration or healthcare administration preferred.
• 0-2 years of experience in healthcare setting including patient registration or front desk/admissions required.
• 0-2 years of experience in customer service preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greets patients and families in a professional and compassionate manner.
• Registers patients for emergency services and collects required information.
• Verifies patient identification and insurance details and updates records as needed.
• Obtains signatures on consent forms and explains each consent.
• Verifies coverage and eligibility for billing purposes.
• Collects patient co-pays or deductibles and informs patients of financial obligations.
• Assists with insurance questions and understanding requirements.
• Documents circumstances if patient cannot sign and notes nursing sign-off if needed.
• Verifies insurance and proper plan codes for accurate payment.
• Compiles paperwork for quick retrieval of visits.
• Places armband on patients to ensure ID throughout stay.
• Notifies department or physicians of patient arrival and follows up if waiting too long.
• Maintains communication during emergency codes and alerts.
