Job summary

Liberty Hospital in Liberty, MO is seeking a Patient Care Tech for the Emergency Department. This night shift, full-time role combines direct patient care with unit secretary/nurse tech support, using clear communication and calm decision-making under pressure.

Under RN supervision, responsibilities include patient care tasks, data entry, rounds, and coordinating with staff to ensure safety and efficiency. Prior CNA or emergency care training is required.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate or GED or currently enrolled in a high school or GED program.
• Must have CNA license or completed unlicensed personnel training, or fundamentals of nursing courses, or emergency medical technician / medical assistant / surgical technician training.
• Minimum 18 months in a relevant patient care role.
• Employees hired before 12/20/2025 are not required to be a high school graduate, GED, CNA license, or complete the Gold Standard Intern Program.

Responsibilities

• Prepares for admission, transfers and discharges including securing IV pump, zeroing bed and updating white board with current information.
• Maintains a safe and clean environment by cleaning equipment, infection control, reporting damaged equipment, changing sharps containers, keeping hallways clear, and wiping desk/nurses station.
• Records daily duties such as hygiene, vital signs, nutritional assistance, weight/height, ambulation, fingerstick blood sugar and intake/output; transports specimens to Lab as indicated.
• Makes rounds and answers call lights promptly with excellent customer service; reports changes in patient condition confidentially.
• Introduces self to patient and family; communicates information to nurse and shift coordinator; handles physician calls and critical results.
• Uses technology for data entry and data retrieval; enters orders and charges accurately.
• Manages time, prioritizes tasks, and makes decisions regarding patient care.
• Contributes to plan of care under nurse direction, following fall risk and skin monitoring goals.
• Performs clinical, technical competencies of the assigned unit.
