Job summary

Ball State University is seeking a Custodian Relief to support facilities operations on campus. The role is a full-time, third-shift position from 10:30 pm to 7:00 am, Sunday through Thursday, on-site at Ball State University.

Responsibilities include cleaning floors, maintaining carpets, restroom sanitation, dusting, trash removal, exterior cleaning, and assisting student custodial staff. The ideal candidate has at least one year of work experience, can read and follow safety procedures, and is

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• No allergies to soaps, cleaning agents, chemicals or environmental factors in custodial service.
• Must be able to climb ladders, scaffolding of various heights to perform duties.
• Must be able to read and comprehend policies and procedures for safety and operations.
• If required by assignment, possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License.
• Must meet mental and physical requirements as outlined in each duty.
• Must successfully pass manlift certification, if position requires it, within a reasonable period after hire.
• Must have at least one year’s work experience (full time or part time).
• You must be 18 years or older.

Responsibilities

• Clean, renovate, and renew floors and finishes using mops, scrubs, and wax systems.
• Maintain carpeted areas: vacuum, spot-clean, and extract stains as needed.
• Clean and service restrooms, including fixtures, stock supplies, and sanitize surfaces.
• Dust, vacuum, polish furniture and fixtures, change lighting, and maintain clean fixtures.
• Collect and dispose of trash and recycling; manage waste removal.
• Sweep exterior entrances and maintain outdoor cleaning tasks.
• Clean, maintain, restock, and organize storage areas; report repairs to supervisor.
• Acquire and maintain knowledge of chemicals and safety concerns.
• Lock and unlock doors per policies and procedures.
• Set rooms per custodial worksheets; move furniture; report repairs.
• Guide and assist student custodial employees.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
