Job summary

Ball State University Housing has an opportunity for a Custodian position on campus with full-time hours from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday. The role includes comprehensive cleaning duties across residence halls and common areas, with a strong emphasis on safety and adherence to policies. Authorization to work in the U.S.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
• No allergies to soaps, cleaning agents, chemicals or environmental factors in custodial service.
• Must be able to climb ladders, scaffolding of various heights to perform duties.
• Must be able to read and comprehend all specified policies and procedures for safety, hazardous materials information, University policies, procedures and communications, and perform basic mathematical functions.
• If required by assignment, you must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License and be insurable under the university’s auto fleet policy.
• Must be able to perform all mental and physical requirements as outlined in each job duty.
• Must successfully pass manlift certification, if position requires it, within a reasonable period of time after hire.
• Must have at least one year’s work experience (full time or part time).
• You must be 18 years or older.

Responsibilities

• Clean, renovate, and renew floor finishes including dust mopping, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, waxing, and related tasks.
• Maintain carpet floors through vacuuming, extraction cleaning, and related procedures.
• Clean and service restrooms including fixtures and surfaces.
• Dust, vacuum, clean, and polish furniture and surfaces; clean fixtures, windows, and lighting.
• Collect and dispose of trash and recyclables; handle exterior cleaning duties.
• Sweep exterior areas and clean entryways; manage snow removal and exterior cleaning as needed.
• Clean appliances and maintain knowledge of chemicals and safety practices.
• Perform other custodial duties as assigned.
