Job summary

SafeSpace, Inc. is seeking a DV Shelter Program Assistant to support survivors in our 24/7 hotline and emergency shelter operations. This role involves direct crisis intervention, intake processing, and providing essential referrals to meet basic needs.

The position requires sensitivity to trauma, strong communication skills, and the ability to work overnights and weekends as part of a rotating schedule. Non-exempt, part-time hours.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED; 1+ year of direct crisis support or related experience preferred.
• Experience providing supportive services, referrals and information to vulnerable populations preferred.
• Bilingual language skills preferred.
• Must pass a level two background screen and have a valid driver’s license with reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Handle hotline calls from survivors, law enforcement, emergency dispatchers, and partners with calm, professional conduct; provide risk assessments, safety planning, information and referrals.
• Facilitate shelter orientation and communicate guidelines; complete shelter intakes within 24 hours and enter data into the agency database.
• Provide crisis counseling and ongoing emotional support; connect participants with transportation and basic needs services.
• Inform survivors about victim compensation options and rights; assist with follow-up advocacy.
• Schedule and coordinate advocacy appointments and case management with participants and DV Shelter Advocates.
