Job summary

The University of Iowa seeks full-time Central Service Technicians for 3rd shift, located within the Integrated Services Center in Coralville and Turn Center in Iowa City. Duties include decontamination, sterilization, packaging, and inventory of sterile medical devices, with on-call, weekends, and holidays rotation.

Responsibilities cover instrument decontamination, tray assembly, quality documentation, and high-volume processing under supervision.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalent, with courses in the physical and natural sciences and mathematics.
• One year experience in a hospital-related field that would provide a background in medical environment or sterile technique as it applies to medical supplies and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Decontaminates, inspects, cleans, sorts, disassembles and reassembles complex instrument and implant trays, operates washers, performs microbicidal processes, and handles high volumes of delicate surgical devices.
• Accesses reference materials via computer systems, follows guides to assemble trays, inspects items for function and cleanliness, labels and documents items.
• Performs sterilization, packaging inspection, equipment operation, safety procedures, documentation, and prioritization.
• Assembles instrument trays per procedure cards within required timeframes and documents missing items; responds to emergencies and add-on cases.
• Manages inventory for supplies and implants, monitors stock levels, restocks, and records usage.
