Job summary

The University of Iowa in Iowa City is seeking a full-time Supervisor for Central Sterilizing Services. You will lead instrument reprocessing, staff education, and equipment maintenance to support safe patient care and regulatory compliance.

The role includes supervising technicians and coordinating with clinical/non-clinical teams on campus. The position requires a bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years in sterile processing, plus relevant certifications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, management, nursing, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience in Central Sterilizing.
• Proficient in computer software applications such as Word, Outlook, and Excel.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• A minimum of 2 years related quality or technical experience in a medical field that includes a sterile processing component.
• Previous supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialized level of clinical/technical expertise in the reprocessing of instruments - including cleaning, inspecting, disinfecting, and sterilizing.
• Identify training gaps and proactively assess educational needs.
• Maintain and update equipment and supplies used in instrument reprocessing.
• Supervise technicians in UI Health Care Central Sterilizing Services.
• Provide health education and feedback to staff relative to department operations.
• Monitor the effectiveness of training methods across technicians, clinicians, and administrators.
• Collaborate with health care team to ensure safe delivery of care and data-driven communication.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, FDA, DOT, AAMI, AORN and accreditation standards.
