Job summary

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA seeks a Unit Coordinator for the NICU/Special Care Nursery to support efficient daily operations and act as a central resource for admissions, transfers, and communications.

The role partners with nurses and the care team to ensure accurate records, smooth patient flow, and excellent customer service for families and staff; requires strong written and verbal English communication and basic computer skills.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required; Associate's degree preferred.
• Prior customer service experience.
• Basic familiarity with computers and navigating web-based apps.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates patient flow through the unit.
• Coordinates admissions with admitting, nursing staff and admission facilitator.
• Assists providers and ensures availability of needed supplies.
• Obtains and communicates information for requested tests and procedures.
• Coordinates the registration process for established protocols.
• Answers patient call lights promptly and follows unit standards.
• Greets and directs patients, families, visitors and staff.
• Identifies self and provides non-clinical information when requested.
• Uses information systems to support unit operations and data accuracy.
• Serves as a point person for IS issue resolution and problem-solving.
• Maintains printer/copier/fax equipment and basic troubleshooting.
• Ensures proper charging for equipment, supplies, and purchases.
• Coordinates special purchases for patient care needs (e.g., specialty beds).
• Maintains equipment logs and unit maintenance records.
• Performs/monitors activities related to JCAHO standards.
• Manages unit-based patient valuables program and tracking of losses.
