Job summary

The University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the Stead Family Children’s Hospital NICU, Level 7, Nights. The role supports the Nursing team under direct supervision of the Nurse Manager, performing vital sign checks, hygiene care and patient transports in a high-acuity pediatric NICU setting.

Responsibilities include phlebotomy, ECG lead placement, sterile technique, helping with admissions, transfers, discharges, and ensuring patient comfort and safety throughout

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and follow instructions.

Responsibilities

• Independently obtain and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure).
• Carry out medical asepsis and patient care tasks including phlebotomy, IV removal, Foley catheter care.
• Assist with admissions, transfers, and discharges; provide personal hygiene and comfort.
• Turn, position and ambulate patients; transport patients, equipment, specimens, and supplies.
• Assist with meals and intake; document output and feeding.
• Participate in nursing care conferences and report pertinent information to the nurse in charge.
