Job summary

University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a Patient Care Technician for Stead Family Children’s Hospital. The role is part-time (20 hours/week) with evening and night shifts, including every 4th weekend and two holiday periods.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and follow instructions.

Responsibilities

• Independently obtain and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure).
• Carry out medical asepsis for phlebotomy, IV removal, and Foley catheter care as directed.
• Perform basic diagnostic/therapeutic tasks (enemas, preop skin prep, dressing changes, specimen collection).
• Assist with patient admission, transfers, and discharges; provide for patient comfort and hygiene.
• Turn, position, and ambulate patients; transport patients, equipment, and supplies.
• Assist with meals, hydration, and recording intake; help with bedpans and urinals.
• Participate in nursing care conferences and report pertinent information to the nurse in charge.
