Job description

Event Services Hosts are needed only for events. Our events calendar is published 3 months in advance, allowing you to see which events fit your schedule. Most events are during the evenings. Weekly hours cannot be guaranteed, but you will have the flexibility to work around your schedule. This position's duties DO NOT include event planning, meal service, or related duties.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Perform and adhere to Herschend Enterprises' Core Values and Newport Aquarium Guest Service Standards, Policies and Procedures, and Safety Protocols to ensure safe and efficient guest and event services operations.
2. Maintain a positive attitude and appearance at all times.
3. Approach guests in a friendly manner to help and provide information regarding Newport Aquarium.
4. Arrive on time and prepared for all scheduled shifts, in accordance with aquarium uniform and appearance standards.
5. Prioritize safety while working at Newport Aquarium.
6. Assist with event set-up, including setting tables, chairs, and decor to prepare for event start.
7. Coordinate with other hosts/departments to ensure effective communication.
8. Stay informed about activities, aquatic life, and special events/promotions to properly inform guests.
9. Facilitate metal detection and bag check during guest entry.
10. Work independently with motivation, discipline, and reliability.
11. Maintain appropriate guest and team member relations to ensure satisfaction.
12. Demonstrate strong customer service, interpersonal skills, and attention to detail.
13. Handle comments, concerns, and suggestions from guests and team members regarding policies and procedures.
14. Follow directions from the Sales Events team and adhere to all policies and procedures.
15. Perform other duties as assigned by Guest Service Management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Strong public speaking skills.
2. At least 18 years of age.
3. Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English; knowledge of other languages is a plus.
4. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays. Evening availability is required.
5. Reliable transportation, as bus service may not be available late at night.
6. Knowledge of marine life is advantageous.

PHYSICAL AND MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Successful background check.
2. No allergies that interfere with work.
3. Ability to stand for long periods, climb stairs, bend, and stoop.
4. Physical strength to lift up to 25 pounds and push/pull up to 50 pounds.
