Job summary

Washoe County School District seeks a Paraeducator Assistant I to support newcomer students and EL learners. You will coordinate orientations, assist with intake, translate when needed, and help ensure access to Tier I instruction within the classroom.

The role focuses on newcomer transition, cultural context, and collaboration with the EL team, site staff, and community partners to promote student success.

Qualifications

• Ability to instruct EL students in academic areas.
• Ability to prepare lesson plans and teaching aids.
• Strong English language skills (writing, spelling, grammar).

Responsibilities

• Adapt activities to reinforce language development and access to core content.
• Provide individual or small-group support for EL students.
• Monitor language progress and provide feedback to staff.
• Collaborate to improve language outcomes.
• Coordinate newcomer orientation and intake for first-year students.

Education

High school diploma

48 semester hours / 60 quarter hours

Associate degree or higher (optional)

ParaPro/ETS option (460 score)
