Job summary

Washoe County School District in Sparks, NV, seeks a Paraeducator Assistant I - Newcomer Support at Sparks Middle School to provide targeted instructional and social-emotional support to English Learner students. The role focuses on coordinating newcomer transitions and ensuring access to Tier I instruction.

The position requires knowledge of language development, cultural responsiveness, and collaboration with EL staff and families; experience as a paraeducator is preferred.

Qualifications

• Completion of 48 semester or 60 quarter units from an accredited college/university (preferably in child development, education, special education, or related field).
• AND one (1) year of relevant experience.
• Option 2: High school diploma AND two (2) years of experience as a Paraeducator aide or in a similar instructional/guidance role.
• HQ: 48 semester hours, associate degree, or passing ParaProAssessment (ETS) with at least 460.

Responsibilities

• Provide targeted instructional and social-emotional support to EL students.
• Coordinate newcomer orientation and intake, including gathering prior education background.
• Coordinate newcomer school experience with district staff and site teams.
• Support Tier I instruction with appropriate scaffolds for newcomers and short-term ELs.
• Facilitate school-home communication for newcomer families and coordinate interpretation services.
