Job summary

Washoe County School District is seeking a Paraeducator Assistant I - Newcomer Support at Desert Skies Middle School. The role provides targeted instructional and social-emotional support to English Learner students through individual/small-group assistance and coordinates newcomer transition efforts.

The position emphasizes Onsideration for intake/orientation, translating, culturally contextual support, and collaboration with the Newcomer Consultant and EL staff to ensure equitable Tier I

Qualifications

• Completion of 48 semester or 60 quarter units from an accredited college/university (preferably in child development, education, special education, or related field).
• AND one (1) year of relevant experience.
• High school diploma.
• AND two (2) years of experience as a Paraeducator aide or in a similar instructional/guidance role.
• HQ: Completed 48 semester hours of credit or an associate degree or higher or ParaProAssessment score 460+.

Responsibilities

• Provide EL instructional support to develop language and content knowledge.
• Support newcomer orientation and intake, including gathering prior educational background and scheduling services.
• Coordinate newcomer school experience with district staff and site teams.
• Assist teachers in planning and delivering Tier I instruction with scaffolds for newcomers.
• Facilitate school-home communication and interprete support per procedures.
• Provide supervision and informal check-ins for newcomers in classrooms and common areas.
