Job summary

Washoe County School District in Reno, NV seeks a Paraprofessional Assistant I for Newcomer Support to provide targeted instructional and social-emotional support to English Learner students, collaborating with EL staff and teachers.

The role covers orientation, intake, translation, progress monitoring during the first enrollment year, and coordination with the District Newcomer Consultant to ensure equitable access to Tier I instruction.

Qualifications

• Completion of 48 semester or 60 quarter units from an accredited college/university (preferably in child development, education, special education, or related field).
• AND one (1) year of relevant experience.
• Option 2: High school diploma and two (2) years of experience as a Paraeducator aide or in a similar instructional/guidance role.
• HQ: 48 sem hours or associate degree or ParaPro score 460.

Responsibilities

• Adapt classroom activities and materials to reinforce language development and academic language knowledge.
• Provide individual or small-group support to enable equitable access to grade-level content.
• Monitor EL student progress toward language and content objectives with timely feedback.
• Collaborate with instructional staff to improve language outcomes.
• Assist with newcomer orientation, intake, and coordination with District Newcomer Consultant.
