Job summary

Washoe County School District is seeking a Paraeducator Assistant I at Desert Skies Middle School to provide targeted instructional and social-emotional support for English Learner students, especially newcomers. You will develop materials, monitor progress, and coordinate with the District Newcomer Consultant and site teams to ensure equitable access to Tier I instruction.

This one-year position focuses on newcomer onboarding, translating, and maintaining culturally responsive practices, while

Qualifications

• Completion of 48 semester or 60 quarter units from an accredited college/university (preferably in child development, education, special education, or related field).
• AND one (1) year of relevant experience.
• Option 2: High school diploma. AND two (2) years of experience as a Paraeducator aide or in a similar instructional/guidance role.
• HQ: Completed 48 semester hours or an associate's degree or higher; or ParaPro score 460.

Responsibilities

• Adapt classroom activities to reinforce language development and build academic language/content knowledge.
• Provide individual or small-group support for equitable access to Grade-level content.
• Monitor progress toward language and content objectives; provide timely feedback.
• Collaborate with staff to improve language outcomes.
• Assist with language acquisition activities and model English communication.
• Promote student self-efficacy through culturally responsive practices.
• Serve as newcomer site contact for onboarding and intake.
• Coordinate newcomer intake/orientation and scheduling.
• Support Tier I instruction with scaffolds for newcomers and short-term ELs.
• Facilitate school-home communication and interpretation services.
