Job summary

Washoe County School District seeks a Paraeducator Assistant I for Newcomer Support at Vaughn Middle School. Under supervision, you will provide targeted instructional and social-emotional support to English Learner students through individualized and small-group assistance, focusing on newcomers and their families during enrollment.

Responsibilities include coordinating with the District Newcomer Consultant, EL staff, counselors, and partners; translating and providing cultural context; and

Qualifications

• Completion of 48 semester or 60 quarter units from an accredited college/university (preferably in child development, education, special education, or related field).
• AND one (1) year of relevant experience.
• High school diploma AND two (2) years of experience as a Paraeducator aide or in a similar instructional/guidance role.
• HQ: 48 semester hours or associate degree or ParaPro score 460+.

Responsibilities

• Adapt classroom activities and materials to reinforce language development and content knowledge.
• Provide individual or small-group support for equitable access to grade-level content.
• Monitor EL student progress and provide feedback to students and staff.
• Coordinate newcomer onboarding, intake, and language support.
• Support teachers with Tier I instruction and scaffolds for newcomers.
• Facilitate school-home communication and interpreter services as needed.
