Job summary

Dept of State Health Services is seeking a highly skilled Team Leader for Newborn Screen Specimen Logistics in Austin, TX. The role focuses on leading the logistics team, ensuring specimen quality, and maintaining regulatory compliance under the NBS program.

The position requires strong QA experience, ability to train staff, and effective coordination with internal and external stakeholders. This full-time role follows a 1st shift with weekends as required.

Qualifications

• Experience in public health settings and newborn screening is preferred.
• Knowledge of public health laws, rules, and regulatory requirements.
• Experience in training, coaching, and supervising staff.
• Associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in relevant field; 2 years in public health can substitute.

Responsibilities

• Lead the NBS Specimen Logistics Team and coordinate workloads.
• Maintain QA processes, SOPs, and participate in audits.
• Train staff on bench duties, procedures, and QA/QC.
• Manage records and ensure safety, quality, and compliance.
• Support COOP activation and cross-team communication.

Education

Bachelor's / Master / Doctoral degree in microbiological, chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science
