Job summary

Georgia Department of Public Health in Decatur, GA seeks a Laboratory Supervisor for Newborn Screening to oversee testing, compliance, and staff. The role acts as a General Supervisor under CLIA, ensuring quality and data integrity while coordinating with IT and partner programs.

There is grant-funded status and potential weekend/holiday work. Requirements include a бакер's degree in biology/chemistry, MT certification or equivalent supervisory experience, and experience with high-throughput

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, microbiology, chemistry or related fields; must meet CLIA ’88 General Supervisor requirements.
  • Certification as Medical Technologist (MT) (ASCP) or equivalent, or 2 years supervisory experience with plan to certify.
  • Experience with high-throughput labs and quality control practices is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as laboratory liaison in OZ electronic ordering project to transform manual orders to electronic.
  • Recruitment activities including interviewing and selecting candidates.
  • Oversee training and competency assessment of staff.
  • Review performance evaluations and document results.
  • Coordinate leave, duty assignments, and staff training.
  • Develop guidelines for technical procedures and SOPs in the lab.
  • Maintain equipment maintenance procedures and validation of new lots.
  • Ensure testing environment and reagents meet performance standards.
  • Monitor quality control data and document corrective actions.
  • Maintain inventory of reagents and supplies and ensure timely ordering.
  • Validate new lots before use and assist in validating new assays/instruments.
  • Coordinate proficiency testing and ensure timely submissions.
  • Collaborate with IT staff to ensure testing and reporting meet standards.
  • Coordinate with newborn screening program and contracted entities for timely reporting.

Education

Bachelor's degree in biology, microbiology, chemistry or related fields
Certified Medical Technologist (MT) or equivalent certification OR 2 years supervisory experience
