The Services Director directs laboratory Newborn Screening services, supervises scientific managers, professional/technical staff and administrative support positions.Job Responsibilities:This leadership position is responsible for the oversight of scientific and administrative Newborn Screening laboratory operations. This position works directly with the Department of Public Health programmatic and medical follow-up programs to guide development and oversee testing and program objectives. Maintains a culture of quality to assure the delivery of accurate and timely results using proper safety precautions for the Newborn Screening service areas.Primary Duties & Responsibilities:Plans, organizes, and directs the laboratory activities for Newborn Screening Services.Conducts or participates in the development, review, revision, interpretation, and/or implementation for policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines.Provides updates to the Newborn Screening Advisory committee.Provide technical expertise for the development, validation and implementation of genetic testing and result interpretation for existing and new newborn disorders according to the recommended uniform screening panel (RUSP).Coordinates interaction between department, agency, and facility operating units, other programs, and /or external customers as appropriateServes as a technical consultant or resource for colleagues and staff, health department managers and healthcare providers; develops and presents educational and/or training sessions, as neededReviews and evaluates the overall quality management system as it applies to their area of responsibility, to include, but not limited to, personnel management, oversight of equipment and inventory procurement, document and records management, and oversight of the quality assessment plan and continuous quality improvement programDevelops, implements, and monitors grants and cooperative agreements for Newborn ScreeningCollaborate with senior managers to develop the program’s strategic goals in accordance with the mission of the agency.Analyzes data, and prepares technical and administrative reports for the laboratory director, and for grants, publications and regulatory requirementsMaintains and fosters communication among staff and with public health partners and customersMaintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societiesServes as integral member of the lab leadership team.Visits the Waycross, GA Newborn Screening laboratory at least twice per year.Preferred Qualifications:Doctorate in a biological, chemical or physical science related field to include, but not limited to medical or clinical laboratory science, medical technology, chemistry, microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, biology, immunology or other biomedical field.More than 3 years of recent related laboratory work experience in a certified (e.g., CLIA, CAP) clinical or public health laboratory, including at least 2 years directing or supervising high complexity laboratory testingEquivalent combinations of directly related education, experience or postdoctoral fellowships may be considered on a case-by-case basisSpecial consideration will be given to applicants with national certification as a laboratory director or technical specialists, or demonstrated experience directly related to the job dutiesMinimum Qualifications:Master's degree in healthcare services or related field from an accredited college or university and eight (8) years of professional managerial or supervisory experience in healthcare services; or four (4) years of experience at the lower-level Dir, Healthcare -(HCM014) or position equivalent.-Note: Some positions may require certification and/or licensure.Equal Employment Opportunity EmployerThe State of Georgia does not discriminate based on race, color, national origin, sex, religion, age, disability, or other protected categories in employment or the provision of services.Qualified applicants may request reasonable accommodation when needed during the application and/or screening process by contacting the appropriate agency Human Resources department.
