Job summary

The Georgia Department of Public Health in Decatur, GA is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor for Newborn Screening. You will oversee CLIA-compliant lab operations, review testing reports for accuracy, manage inventory, and supervise staff, with occasional weekend work.

Grant-funded position with a salary range of $64,000 to $71,205 per year. Requires a bachelor's degree in biology/chemistry, MT (ASCP) certification or eligibility, and CLIA General Supervisor qualifications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, microbiology, chemistry, or related field.
  • MT (ASCP) certification or eligible; CLIA General Supervisor qualifications.
  • Must meet CLIA ’88 General Supervisor requirements for a high‑complexity lab.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as laboratory liaison in implementing the OZ electronic ordering project to transform manual lab ordering and printed reports to electronic orders and reports.
  • Participates in the recruitment of new staff and interviewing candidates.
  • Oversees the training and competency assessment of staff.
  • Reviews/evaluates staff and documents performance evaluations.
  • Prepares duty assignments and coordinates leave and training of staff.
  • Arbitrates personnel work conflicts and grievances.
  • Develops guidelines for implementing technical procedures in the lab with SOPs.
  • Maintains equipment maintenance procedures and documents preventive maintenance.
  • Ensures testing environment and reagents meet performance standards.
  • Monitors quality control data and oversees corrective actions.
  • Maintains inventory of reagents and supplies and ensures timely ordering.
  • Validates new lots of supplies and reagents before use.
  • Assists in verifying/validating new assays and instruments.
  • Coordinates proficiency testing and ensures timely submission of results.
  • Works with IT staff to ensure testing/reporting meets standards.
  • Collaborates with newborn screening program and contracted entities for timely reporting of positive results.
