Job summary

State of North Carolina is seeking a Newborn Screening Social Worker to coordinate services statewide under the newborn screening follow-up protocol. The role collaborates with the State Laboratory of Public Health to address abnormal results and monitor children until final diagnoses are made.

The position requires a Master’s degree in social work (or an equivalent combination) and strong case management skills, with proficiency in MS Office and knowledge of community resources.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in social work or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in social work with one year of related experience OR Master’s in a human services field with one year of related experience.
• Equivalent education/experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate statewide newborn screening follow-up per the NC State Laboratory protocol.
• Collaborate with SLPH, medical specialists, and NBS advisory committee.
• Document follow-up activities in the newborn screening database.
• Develop and revise follow-up protocols with staff.
• Provide educational presentations and technical assistance on newborn screening.
