Job summary

Beverly Teachers Association invites qualified educators to serve as New Teacher Mentors in Beverly, MA. The role focuses on instructional leadership and ongoing support to new teachers through coaching, modeling strategies, and collaborative planning.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Induction Program Coordinators as needed
  • Facilitate a strong start to the school year
  • Provide instructional support by observing and conferencing with the mentee
  • Model instructional strategies or facilitate opportunities for mentee to observe other teachers
  • Provide a schedule for group mentoring with the support team
  • Provide advice on classroom management and how to handle behavioral issues
  • Provide pedagogical strategies to teach a diverse community of learners
  • Support alignment with MA Curriculum Frameworks
  • Provide professional support by aligning induction to building goals, initiatives, and culture
  • Meet with content facilitators to access curriculum resources and lesson planning
  • Maintain a confidential mentoring relationship
  • Support understanding of the Massachusetts Teacher Evaluation system and walk-throughs

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Attend a mandatory one-hour orientation/training workshop
  • Log 1-2 hours every month in Frontline; mentor hours should total a minimum of 15 hours
  • Collaborate with the Induction Program Coordinators as needed
  • Facilitate a strong start to the school year
  • Provide instructional support by observing and conferencing with the mentee
  • Model instructional strategies or facilitate opportunities for the mentee to observe other effective teachers
  • Provide a schedule for group mentoring with the support team
  • Provide advice on classroom management and how to handle various behavioral issues
  • Provide pedagogical strategies and methods to teach a diverse community of learners
  • Provide support in teaching and learning standards of the MA Curriculum Frameworks
  • Provide professional support by aligning the induction program to building goals, initiatives, and culture
  • Meet with content facilitators or instructional coaches to facilitate opportunities for mentee to access curriculum resources, systems, data collection, and lesson planning
  • Maintain and sustain a confidential relationship
  • Support teachers in understanding the Massachusetts Teacher Evaluation system and how the administrator conducts walk-throughs, formative, and summative meetings
Characteristics of Mentors
  • Effective in the classroom, as shown by receiving a rating of at least proficient on recent evaluations
  • Outstanding, proven teachers whose practice reflects excellent content knowledge of the MA Curriculum Frameworks
  • Effective communicators and problem solvers, especially when working with adults
  • Knowledgeable about the professional and community resources in the school and district
  • Completed at least three years of experience
Compensation
  • Compensation is set in accordance with the Beverly Teachers Association Unit A collective bargaining agreement.
  • In the event that multiple individuals are selected to fill a single stipend position, the stipend amount shall be divided equally among all such individuals.
