BROAD RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Teacher Mentor is responsible for teaching aself-contained or departmentalized class during a 12-month school year.Specific duties and responsibilities will vary depending on the subject matterthe Teacher will teach. Additional Mentor responsibilities are explainedbelow and are expected to be performed during the school year that mentorshipduties are assigned.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES (performed by all Teachers):
- Develop an I.E.P. (Individualized Education Program)covering a twelve-month period on each student assigned and completeprogress marks and comments as indicated on the IEP.
- Ensure that students receive related services andaccommodations as outlined in the I.E.P.
- Complete all necessary reports and documentation as peragency standards
- Maintain an attractive and educationally appropriateclassroom environment
- Share in the maintenance of building bulletin boards
- Read, understand and comply with policies, proceduresand expectations outlined in the school and agency manuals
- Participate in all meetings as required and schoolactivities, as described by program calendar including but not limitedto: Parent/Teacher Conferences, open house, staff meetings, CSEmeetings, Red Flag Reviews, etc.
- Work cooperatively with all departments in our agencyand communicate student concerns with the treatment team and supervisor
- Develop plans for effectively communicating progress ofstudents with families, related service providers, and residential staff(if applicable)
- Assist in all ways to create the best possibleeducation program for our students
- Responsible for the accountability and supervision ofall students at all times
- Implement Common Core State Standard curriculum tostudents with varying disabilities
- Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units andprojects and communicate those objectives to the students
- Plan and teach lessons with a balanced approach ofinstruction, demonstration and independent work that provides studentswith opportunities to observe, question and investigate
- Provide direct and indirect instruction to students ina positive and professional manner
- Maintain an accurate and complete grade book, andrecord of other required data to prepare and verify written reportson students, as required by laws, school districts and administrativerequirements.
- Create and maintain lesson plans and plan books thataddress student needs while meeting state standards
- Modify and differentiate curriculum to meet individualstudent needs
- Utilize curriculum that reflects the diverseeducational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds and needs of thestudents served.
- Implement a positive behavior management system for theclassroom, providing crisis intervention when needed
- Directs teacher assistants, 1:1 aides, studentteachers, volunteers and/or learn and earn workers for the purpose ofproviding an effective classroom program and addressing the needs ofindividual students
- Other duties as assigned
ADDITIONAL TEACHER MENTOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Meet regularly with assigned mentees to provide ongoingfeedback regarding job performance
- Perform classroom observation of mentees withgoal-specific feedback
- Maintain and submit monthly Mentor Logs to EducationDepartment leadership
- Masterful understanding of the Teacher Mentor ProgramChecklist. Coach and train through the list with the Teachersassigned to mentor
- Assist with the review of IEPs, grades, and commentsdrafted by mentees
- Model professional relationships for all Teachers andTeacher’s Assistants while upholding positive working relationships withstaff and students
- Assist mentees with lesson planning that follows theexplicit direct instruction model
- Attend individual or group Mentor Program meetings asrequired and/or needed
- Take a leadership role by actively facilitating orplanning for professional learning committees
- Participate as an observer in Administrative learningwalks
- Actively participate in the agency’s PBIS or PBISsub-committees
- Participate in other committee work as requested, whichcan include, but may not necessarily be limited to: RTI, MTSS, ARTI,school safety/reunification, nutrition, literacy curriculum, mathcurriculum, school culture, etc.
Starting Salary: $5,000 annual differential added toalready established Teacher salary
