Job summary

Timmons Group is seeking a motivated Civil Project Engineer I for our Transportation Design team in Raleigh, NC. This entry-level role focuses on roadway design, 3D modeling, and site investigations to support project delivery.

Ideal candidates have a civil engineering degree and familiarity with Civil 3D/OpenRoads. EIT is preferred, with opportunities for professional growth in a collaborative, values-driven environment.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering or related field with transportation coursework.
• EIT preferred.
• Experience with Bentley OpenRoads Designer and/or AutoDesk Civil 3D (preferred).
• Familiarity with VDOT standards and procedures (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Design horizontal alignments and vertical profiles for roadway widening and improvements.
• Develop 3D models and plans using Civil 3D and/or OpenRoads Designer.
• Create visualizations for client and public presentations using 3D software.
• Prepare detailed plan sheets and project submission packages.
• Perform roadway and drainage calculations using engineering software.
• Assist in preparing engineering and construction cost estimates.
• Research GIS data for project planning.
• Conduct field observations to support design discussions.
• Stay current with emerging technologies to enhance team capabilities.
• Participate in client and contractor meetings to support project delivery.

Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesof a successful candidate include but are not limited to:

• Design horizontal alignments and vertical profiles for roadway widening and improvement projects


• Develop 3D models and plans usingAutoDesk Civil 3Dand/orBentley OpenRoads Designer


• Create visualizations for client and public presentations using 3D software


• Prepare detailed plan sheets and complete project submission packages


• Perform roadway and drainage calculations using engineering software and reference materials


• Assist in preparing engineering and construction cost estimates


• Research and utilize open-source GIS data for project planning


• Conduct field observations and data collection to support design discussions
