Job summary

The University of Florida College of Medicine’s Department of Neurosurgery in Gainesville seeks an experienced Surgical Coder to provide specialized diagnosis and procedural coding for operative and inpatient services performed by our faculty.

You will review charts, assign ICD-10 and CPT codes in Epic, verify documentation, monitor denials, and educate staff on coding changes while collaborating with department leadership.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with five years of professional medical coding experience in two or three clinical specialties.
  • Certified CPC/AAPC or CCS-P required.
  • Experience with inpatient and operative coding, ICD-10 and CPT.
  • Familiarity with Epic billing system and denials analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Code operative procedures and inpatient consults for neurosurgery faculty.
  • Review charts to assign and verify ICD-10 and CPT codes.
  • Verify documentation to support compliant coding and billing.
  • Maintain accurate charges for surgical and inpatient services in Epic.
  • Analyze denials and reimbursement trends to improve revenue cycle.
  • Educate clinicians on coding requirements and changes.
