Job summary

Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine seeks a Research Assistant to support neuroscience/neuromuscular disease research on the Philadelphia Campus. The role involves coordinating research, zebrafish and mouse husbandry, data handling, and assisting with posters and manuscripts.

A life sciences bachelor's degree is required and starting pay is $21.00 per hour. Responsibilities include performing multiple molecular biology techniques, maintaining data, and training students and staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a life sciences field such as biology or chemistry.
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques (microscopy, protein biochemistry, genotyping/PCR, etc.) and animal work is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to multitask, be detail-oriented and work well independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Proficiently performs at least 4-6 experimental techniques (such as tissue culture, western blotting, PCR, biochemical and behavioral assays).
  • Maintains project data (collection, logging, entry, analysis, reporting) and supports lab activities.
  • Oversees general lab maintenance and safety and manages zebrafish equipment.
  • Coordinates and oversees zebrafish husbandry specific to research.
  • Trains students and staff on zebrafish equipment and lab techniques.
  • Communicate with LAR and researchers to ensure proper care and use of animals in research.
