Job summary

Advocate Health outpatient Neurology practice seeks an experienced Medical Assistant to support exam prep, vitals collection and documentation within a general adult neurology setting.

The MA will perform lab procedures, assist with procedures, administer routine medications under supervision, coordinate referrals, and maintain clear communication with patients and the care team to ensure efficient, quality care.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program.
• Current Medical Assistant certification (CMA/CCMA/NCMA/RMA or equivalent).
• BLS for Healthcare Providers certification required.
• 1 year experience preferred.
• Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within MA scope.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and rooms the patient for exam by obtaining vital signs and gathering health information.
• Performs laboratory procedures and specimen collection using aseptic technique.
• Assists Physician/APP with procedures (e.g., pelvic exams, EMG, colposcopy).
• Administers routine medications under orders or standing protocols.
• Follows through with test requests and referrals, and relays information to patients.
• Communicates with the health care team to ensure smooth clinic flow and patient care.
• Makes basic/advanced clinical support tasks under supervision (suturing, phlebotomy, EKG, etc.).
• Provides age-appropriate care and clear patient education per department policies.
