Job summary

The South Carolina State Accident Fund, the leading workers’ compensation insurer for state agencies, seeks a Network Technician II to join its IT team. You'll assist in analyzing needs, plan solutions, and maintain core server and network services including AD, Exchange, DNS, and VPN.

You will contribute to security, patching, and disaster recovery, while documenting processes and supporting IT operations in a hybrid work environment. An associate degree and relevant experience are required.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in related field or equivalent experience.
• Experience with Windows server and Windows desktop OS, Microsoft 365, AD, DNS, DHCP, GPO.
• Familiarity with server hardware, software upgrades, and security controls.

Responsibilities

• Assist with analyzing business needs and assessing technical feasibility; participate in planning and estimation.
• Prepare user documentation and manuals.
• Manage server hardware, software, and security; perform upgrades and monitor environment (AD, Exchange, anti-virus, patching, SQL, GPO, DNS, VMs, VPN, Firewalls).
• Support project work, implement patching, hardening, and updates to server/desktop images.
• Configure systems to adhere to IT policies and standards.
• Assist with backup and disaster recovery systems.

The South Carolina State Accident Fund is the leading provider of workers' compensation insurance in South Carolina. Since 1943, the State Accident Fund has provided a continuous guaranteed source of cost effective workers' compensation coverage. Today we serve nearly 600 employers and 200,000 state and local government employees throughout the state. Within the State Accident Fund, the Uninsured Employers Fund (UEF) administers benefits as determined by the SC Workers' Compensation Commission for employers who fail to secure proper workers' compensation coverage for their businesses.

The Network Technician II acting as member of the Information Technology (IT) team for the agency with guidance from IT Director, will :

• Assist with analyzing business needsand assessing technical feasibility and solutions. Participate in project planning/estimation and make suggestions to improve the development of solutions and/or techniques.
• Preparesuser documentation and manuals.
• Provide day-to-day management of server hardware, software, and security solutions. Perform any hardware and software upgrades to servers and install new and enhanced products. Maintains and monitors server environment (including but not limited to Active Directory, Exchange and email security, anti-virus, patchingand upgrades, SQL/databases, Group Policy,DNS, VMs, storage, VPN, Firewall rules, Office 365, etc.).
• Assist with projects, issues, efficiency of procedures and updating/patching/hardening of the server and desktop base images. Conduct research on server hardware, software, and protocols in support of development efforts, and provides recommendations to the IT management team.
• Configures systems to adhere to IT policies and standards.
• Assist with backupand disaster recovery system.

• An associate’s degree in related field of experience in computer system development and modifications.
• Relevant experience may be substituted for an associate’s degree.
• Simple to moderate problem solving and troubleshooting skills. Experience with simple to moderate hardware/software including Windows server and Windows desktop OS, Microsoft 365, AD, DNS, DHCP, GPO.
• Experience with developing processes and procedures and assist in overseeing the physical and logical security and integrity of the server environment.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Must be able to lift 15-100 pounds.

Knowledge of end-user computing systems and software, computer networking knowledge. Knowledge of hardware/software troubleshooting. The ability to stay organized and attentive to details. Knowledge of helpdesk functions and IT customer service. Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers. Must be able to work with vendors to resolve issues.
