Job summary

Tundra Technical Solutions seeks a Network Refresh Engineer for a ship dry dock project in Seattle to plan, install, upgrade, test, and document network infrastructure aboard the vessel, including switches, routers, firewalls, wireless, and structured cabling.

You will collaborate with shipyard teams, marine engineers, and crew, perform cutover planning to minimize downtime, verify end-to-end communications for critical ship systems, and maintain up-to-date documentation and as-built drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Network Upgrade and Refresh: Replace or upgrade outdated network equipment onboard the ship. Install and configure switches, routers, firewalls, wireless systems, and other networking devices. Ensure all refreshed network components meet project and operational requirements.
  • Dry Dock Support: Work in a shipyard/dry dock environment during vessel maintenance and retrofit activities. Coordinate with shipyard teams, marine engineers, vendors, and ship staff. Follow shipyard safety procedures, including permit-to-work and confined space requirements where applicable.
  • Planning and Implementation: Review network drawings, rack layouts, port maps, and cabling schedules. Support network cutover planning to minimize downtime and service disruption. Perform removal of legacy equipment and installation of new infrastructure.
  • Configuration and Testing: Configure network devices according to approved standards. Test connectivity, performance, redundancy, and failover functions. Verify end-to-end communication for critical ship systems and user services.
  • Documentation: Update as-built drawings, network inventories, IP address lists, and configuration records. Document changes made during the refresh and provide handover notes. Maintain accurate installation and testing reports.
  • Troubleshooting and Support: Diagnose and resolve network issues during installation and commissioning. Support integration with shipboard systems such as crew connectivity, CCTV, VOIP, automation, or operational technology networks where required. Provide technical support during acceptance testing and commissioning.

Overview

A Network Refresh Engineer for a ship dry dock project is responsible for planning, installing, upgrading, testing, and documenting network infrastructure on a vessel while it is in dry dock. Compensation and Benefits

The pay range that the employer in good faith reasonably expects to pay for this position is $43.46/hour - $67.90/hour. Our benefits include medical, dental, vision and retirement benefits.
