Tundra Technical Solutions is among North America’s leading providers of Staffing and Consulting Services. Our client seeks a shipboard network engineer to analyze, design and implement robust LAN/WAN, wireless, and security solutions across fleet operations.
You will configure and maintain Cisco/Aruba/Fortinet devices, manage cloud services, and collaborate with shoreside IT during new builds, dry docks, and daily operations to ensure uptime and performance.
Analyze shipboard network requirements and implement cost-effective solutions to support fleet operations.
Responsibilities include configuring and maintaining LAN/WAN, wireless, and security systems; monitoring performance; and troubleshooting issues to ensure reliable guest and crew services. Collaborate with shipboard teams and shoreside IT during newbuilds, dry docks, and daily operations to deliver stable, high-quality network infrastructure.
Analyze and design shipboard and shoreside data networks to support business and operational requirements.
Implement, configure, and upgrade network components to meet growth and infrastructure needs.
Prepare and execute assigned projects, including development of Bills of Materials (BoM) and end-to-end project oversight.
Evaluate LAN/WAN hardware, software, and cloud services; recommend and implement upgrades or new solutions.
Develop, document, and maintain network architecture standards, topologies, and operational procedures.
Integrate network solutions under the direction of the Network Lead, ensuring seamless deployment across fleet and data center environments.
Monitor systems using enterprise tools to ensure availability, proactively addressing performance or reliability issues.
Coordinate preventive maintenance and vendor updates to maintain system stability and security.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues with shipboard teams, remote sites, and cloud environments to minimize downtime.
Support cloud, hybrid, and on-premises integrations, including change management for Cloud and Data Center Managed Services.
Maintain strong vendor partnerships to support procurement, upgrades, and issue resolution.
Contribute to documentation efforts including how-to guides, knowledge bases, and network standards.
Ensure system resilience by scheduling and monitoring backups of critical infrastructure.
Participate in the on-call rotation, providing technical support and escalation coverage as required.
Travel internationally as required (30–35%), primarily outside the United States, to support shipboard projects, drydocks, newbuilds, and operational deployments.
Perform additional duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational objectives.
Degree type: Bachelor's Degree field of study:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, MIS or related field of study; or any equivalent combination of relevant experience, education and training. Midlevel networking certifications strongly preferred
3–5 years of hands‑on experience configuring and managing enterprise‑class networking hardware, including routers, switches, wireless infrastructure, firewalls, cloud services, and internet proxy devices.
Experience with shipboard or maritime network environments strongly preferred. Recent background in network administration, configuration, and management is required.

Expertise in enterprise routing (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP) and switching technologies (Spanning Tree, trunking, MPLS), with deep knowledge of Cisco networking standards, ACI, SDA, and proprietary protocols.
Advanced troubleshooting skills with the ability to quickly resolve network issues in high-pressure shipboard environments.
Proven experience managing large-scale network projects, including newbuilds, drydocks, and fleetwide infrastructure upgrades, while meeting deadlines and resource constraints.
Strong working knowledge of routers, switches, wireless systems (Cisco, Aruba), firewalls and security platforms (Fortinet, Cisco ISE), cloud services, and satellite connectivity (Starlink), with a solid understanding of hardware/software integration.
Ability to work independently and make real‑time decisions to maintain network reliability and performance.
Skilled in researching and implementing emerging technologies and practical solutions to improve operational efficiency.
Effective communicator with strong verbal and written skills; able to interpret and produce technical documentation and procedural guides.
Strong team player with excellent collaboration skills and the ability to work across multiple departments and stakeholders.
Highly organized with the ability to prioritize tasks, show initiative, and drive problem-solving efforts.
Physically capable of lifting and installing network equipment as required (with reasonable accommodation).
CCNA/CCDA/CCNP/CCDP/CCIE
Cisco Certified DevNet Professional/Expert (DevNet) – highlights network automation/orchestration expertise.

The pay range that the employer in good faith reasonably expects to pay for this position is $32.36/hour - $50.56/hour. Our benefits include medical, dental, vision and retirement benefits.
