Job summary

Eutelsat invites an experienced Network Operations Technician (Tier 2) to join our in-person team at Ellington Field Joint Reserve Base in Houston, TX. You will act as escalation point, troubleshoot Layer 2/3 issues, and coordinate with vendors for upgrades and migrations.

You’ll monitor routing protocols (OSPF/BGP), firewall policies, VPNs, and perform root-cause analysis to deliver permanent fixes. Candidates should have Net+/Sec+ or equivalent, 3+ years in NOC settings, and strong Cisco

Responsibilities

Opportunity Description

Essential Duties

• Serve as the escalation point for Tier 1 technicians, resolving complex network, provisioning, and end-user terminal issues for external and internal customers.
• Perform root cause analysis on recurring and high-impact incidents, and recommend and implement permanent corrections.
• Monitor satellite transponder configurations and performance in real time; analyze alarm correlations and execute or direct the appropriate response.
• Troubleshoot and resolve Layer 2 and Layer 3 issues, including routing (OSPF, BGP), VLANs, ACLs, and IPSEC/VPN tunnels.
• Review and maintain firewall policies and access controls; investigate suspicious traffic and security-impacting events and elevate as needed.
• Capture and analyze network traffic (e.g., Wireshark) and use monitoring tools (e.g.,
• SolarWinds) to detect performance degradation early.
• Lead and coordinate staging, migrations, and system upgrades with vendors and stakeholders; maintain awareness of service changes.
• Open, track, and close trouble tickets with timely and accurate records; review ticket quality and escalation paths.
• Perform integration and initial configuration of new user terminals and products prior to shipment.
• Develop and update SOPs, runbooks, and knowledge-base articles; mentor and train Tier 1 technicians and end users.
• Provide on-site support for installations and startups at customer sites (less than 5% domestic travel).
• Work a scheduled 24x7 rotation including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Education and Certifications

• High School Diploma
• Required: Net+ and Sec+
• Preferred: CCNA, A+

Experience

• 3+ years in network operations, network engineering, or NOC/SOC support (Tier 2 or equivalent).
• Strong working knowledge of Cisco IOS and TCP/IP, IPSEC, routing, and firewalls (Palo Alto preferred).
• Hands-on experience with WAN, LAN, and LTE technologies.
• Experience with network monitoring and packet analysis tools.
• Understanding of IP and RF troubleshooting procedures; satellite or RF experience is a plus.
• Experience with Juniper, Aruba, or MikroTik platforms is a plus.Prior leadership or mentoring of junior technicians is a plus.
