Job summary

Wecom Fiber is seeking a Network Operations Field Technician to join our Phoenix team. You will monitor, troubleshoot, and support FTTH/XGSPON deployments, combining NOC desk work with hands-on field tasks around Phoenix area.

Responsibilities include monitoring with SNMP, incident response, field installations, and working with senior engineers on network upgrades. Shift-based with nights, weekends, on-call coverage.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in IT/Network Administration or 3+ years of hands-on NOC/ISP experience.
• Proficiency in TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLANs and fiber optics fundamentals.
• Experience with network monitoring tools and incident tracking systems (Jira/ServiceNow).

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and resolve connectivity issues; perform root cause analysis and document findings.
• Configure and deploy routers, switches, firewalls, OLTs and ONTs; support XGS-PON cabinet equipment.

• Track performance metrics and capacity, identify potential issues before they affect service.
• Maintain accurate network documentation and generate reports.
• Travel to field data centers and cabinet sites within Arizona to support deployments.
• Follow security protocols and escalate anomalies as needed.
• Participate in planning and expansion projects with senior engineers.

Network Operations Field Technician— Wecom Fiber | Phoenix, AZ

Reports to: NOC Manager

Location: Phoenix, AZ

Wecom Fiber is a growing fiber ISP operating in Arizona. Our NOC team keeps the network running — monitoring infrastructure, resolving incidents, and supporting customers across our FTTH and XGSPON footprint. This role is a mix of NOC desk work at our Phoenix office and field work supporting cabinet installations and customer connectivity.

This is a shift-based position. Candidates must be available for rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and on-call coverage.

Key Responsibilities

• Network Monitoring & Incident Response: Monitor network infrastructure using SNMP and telemetry-based tools. Identify and respond to alarms, outages, and degraded service conditions. Follow NOC runbooks and escalation procedures to restore service quickly.
• Troubleshooting & Diagnostics: Diagnose and resolve connectivity issues using packet capture analysis, OTDR, and operational CLI-based diagnostics. Perform root cause analysis and document findings in Jira/JSM.
• Configuration & Deployment: Configure and deploy routers, switches, firewalls, OLTs and ONTs. Support provisioning XGS-PON cabinet equipment and customer-facing services.
• Installation & Maintenance: Assist senior engineers with infrastructure installation, upgrades, and expansion. Perform routine maintenance including firmware upgrades, hardware replacements, and software updates.
• Performance & Capacity: Track network performance metrics and traffic patterns. Identify capacity constraints and flag potential issues before they impact service.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate records of network configurations, changes, incidents, and maintenance activities. Generate performance and compliance reports.
• Field Support: Travel to field-based data center locations and cabinet sites within the greater Arizona area to support installations, troubleshoot physical layer issues, and assist with XGS-PON deployments.
• Security & Compliance: Follow network security protocols and regulatory standards. Escalate anomalies appropriately.
• Project Support: Participate in network planning and expansion projects as directed by senior engineering staff.

Qualifications

Experience:

• Associate degree in IT, Network Administration, or related field — OR — 3+ years of hands-on experience in a NOC or network support role at an ISP or telecom carrier.
• Working knowledge of TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLANs, and fiber optic fundamentals.
• Experience with network monitoring tools (SolarWinds, Datadog, Zabbix, Zenoss, or equivalent).
• Familiarity with Juniper and Calix platforms, or willingness to get there fast.
• Experience using a ticketing system for incident tracking and documentation (Jira, ServiceNow, or equivalent).
• Ability to read and interpret network diagrams and fiber plant documentation.
• Good interpersonal skills in supporting of ISP customer base.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for field assignments.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work outdoors in Arizona heat, and perform physical installation tasks.

Preferred:

• Experience with XGS-PON, GPON, or FTTH deployments.
• Experience with packet capture tools (Wireshark, tcpdump, OTDR).
• Prior NOC experience in a 24/7 operations environment.
