ROCHESTER GAS & ELEC CORP in Rochester, NY is seeking a Network Engineer to design, implement, and maintain secure, resilient utility-grade communications systems supporting electric and gas grid operations.

The role covers IP networking, telecom transport, mobile radio systems, and point-to-point communications, ensuring high availability for mission-critical SCADA, field operations, and corporate connectivity. The position is fully on-site at Rochester, NY.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field preferred.
• Strong written and verbal skills required.
• Self-directed and proactive attitude.

Responsibilities

• Network architecture design for enterprise WAN/LAN, MPLS, fiber, microwave.
• Engineer, maintain, and troubleshoot LMR systems (VHF/UHF, P25, DMR).
• Deploy and maintain microwave, RF, and fiber P2P links for substation backhaul and SCADA.
• Implement routing/switching (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, VLANs, ACLs, QoS).
• Ensure network security with VPN, MACsec, 802.1X, and CIP-aligned controls.
• Support DWDM, SONET, and carrier-grade Ethernet backhaul.
• Monitor uptime and capacity; document with diagrams and SOPs.
• Coordinate with operations, field crews, IT security, and external carriers.
