Job summary

The City of Kirkland seeks a skilled Network Engineer to design, implement, and maintain its citywide network infrastructure. You will work across on‑prem, cloud, and hybrid environments, focusing on secure WAN/LAN topology, firewall rules, and continuous optimization.

Ideal candidates bring CCNA-level expertise, hands-on Cisco IOS experience, and familiarity with Palo Alto PANOS. A Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of enterprise networking are required, with CCNP/CCIE preferred; some on‑call

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related field.
3+ years of enterprise network experience with Layer 2/3 concepts (STP, TCP/IP, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, SD-WAN, VXLAN).
Current CCNA certification; CCNP/CCIE preferred; hands-on Cisco, Meraki and Palo Alto experience.

Responsibilities

Design, engineer, implement, and document City data center networks (on‑prem, cloud, hybrid).
Maintain secure WAN/LAN, public/private networks, and fiber connectivity with high reliability.
Manage firewall rules and security, monitor performance, and ensure disaster recovery readiness.
Provide 24/7 on‑call support and assist with vendor management and licensing.
Document configurations, topology, and procedures; mentor junior team members.
