Job Summary

Information Technology Services (ITS) at the MCCCD is seeking a Network Administrator who wants to do more than maintain an established Cisco environment. This position will help operate, secure, and improve an enterprise network, including newly implemented Arista-based infrastructure at its District office, while supporting Gateway Community College, satellite locations, and shared connectivity services across the District.

As part of a developing internal Network and Infrastructure function, the Administrator will have the opportunity to improve monitoring and automation, strengthen operational standards and documentation, contribute to how the team works as it grows, and help transfer critical knowledge from vendors into the District. Working under general supervision, the position independently handles routine assignments and moderately complex network issues and supports small projects or clearly defined components of larger initiatives.

The Network Administrator is an opportunity to build lasting technical capability in a mission-driven organization where reliable network services directly support students, faculty, staff, and the communities Maricopa serves.

Essential Functions

30% - Monitors, administers, and maintains enterprise wired, wireless, WAN, internet, VPN, routing, switching, DNS, DHCP, and related network services. Performs routine health checks and maintenance, reviews monitoring evidence, and verifies availability, capacity, and performance across District locations

25% - Investigates and resolves network incidents and escalated support issues. Analyzes alerts, logs, flow data, interface statistics, and packet captures; restores service; communicates status and impact; documents work in the authoritative ITSM record; and coordinates vendor support when needed

20% - Installs, configures, tests, upgrades, and implements approved network hardware, software, interfaces, and configuration changes. Prepares implementation, validation, and rollback steps and supports small projects or clearly defined components of larger projects

15% - Maintains network security controls, including firewalls, access control lists, segmentation, secure remote access, device hardening, software and firmware currency, and protected administrative access. Works with security and change-management partners to address vulnerabilities and safeguard District data and services

10% - Maintains network diagrams, configuration and CMDB records, runbooks, knowledge articles, test results, standards, procedures, and reports. Communicates with customers and technical teams, researches relevant technologies and practices, shares guidance with colleagues, and performs related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in information technology or related field, and two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience providing technical support in the installation, and/or maintenance or repair of networking infrastructure and systems.

OR

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree, education, certification and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.

Desired Qualifications
  1. Experience supporting enterprise LAN, WAN, WLAN, internet, and remote-access services in a large, distributed, or higher-education environment, including TCP/IP, IPv4/IPv6, VLANs, routing, switching, and spanning tree
  2. Experience administering and troubleshooting enterprise network services and security controls such as DNS, DHCP, VPN, firewalls, access control lists, segmentation, secure remote access, and hardened network-device configurations
  3. Experience using network monitoring and diagnostic tools to analyze availability, latency, packet loss, capacity, interface health, logs, flow records, and packet captures, with the ability to identify root cause and clearly document findings
  4. Experience installing, upgrading, testing, and maintaining network hardware and software under documented change control, including implementation plans, validation criteria, rollback steps, and post-change documentation
  5. A current or recent technical or vendor networking certification, such as Cisco CCNA, CompTIA Network+, Juniper JNCIA, Aruba ACMA/ACSA, Palo Alto PCCET/PCNSA, or an equivalent certification
  6. Experience working in an IT service management environment and documenting incidents, problems, changes, configuration items, knowledge articles, and service-impact information in TeamDynamix or a comparable ITSM platform
  7. Experience with hybrid or cloud network connectivity and with scripting, templates, APIs, or automation tools such as PowerShell, Python, or Ansible to improve the accuracy, consistency, and repeatability of network administration
  8. One year of relevant full-time MCCCD experience during the previous two years
