We’re seeking an innovative and skilled Art Director to help forge the artistic vision for a new AAA game, developing artwork from concept to production while leading a passionate team.
Responsibilities
- Define the appearance of the game, unique art style, and key visual differentiators.
- Iterate on core game concepts, bringing visuals and creative direction to prototypes.
- Define the art team structure, identifying roles in animation, concept art, character, environment, and technical art.
- Iterate on the project plan, informing timelines and deliverables through key art milestones.
- Develop milestones for the art team via clean pipelines and sustainable scoping.
- Define the asset production workflows, partnering with technical artists to enable efficient asset pipelines.
- Work closely with other MIDDLE team leaders (TD/GD/AD/PD) to sustain the game's creative vision.
- Act as a craft lead, elevating artists' work to meet studio standards.
- Set up art specifications to outline and document the production pipeline.
- Manage relationships with external art contractors.
- Mentor and guide the team, including managing art team members.
- Broaden inspirational ideas that carry setting, tone, mood, and experience.
- Champion and evolve a shared visual language to unify environments, characters, gameplay features, and more.
- Conceptualize in‑game ideas quickly during early discovery.
- Draft clear concept art to guide 3‑D artists and other teammates.
- Provide in‑game 3‑D art for rapid prototyping and pre‑production exploration.
- Help solve gameplay, clarity, and aesthetic issues via concept critiques, paint‑overs, mockups, and storyboards.
- Create and maintain a world‑class artist team, guiding them towards exceptional performance and professional growth.
- Work with designers to capture gameplay needs.
- Work with engineers to understand constraints and maximize visual quality while meeting technical requirements.
- Collaborate with teammates by providing and receiving constructive feedback and submitting clear design deliverables.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of game art production experience, including in an art manager role.
- Shipped more than one game in art‑focused functions (concept, character, environment, asset, world‑building, etc.).
- Proven record of delivering clear, consistent visual direction that elevates artists’ work.
- Thrives as a multidisciplinary team member.
- Communicates authentically, purposefully, and with enthusiasm.
- Excited by learning new skills and willing to take on tasks beyond current scope to advance the team.
- Experience across multiple video game genres.
- Works effectively across remote shared tasks.
- Hands‑on experience with shipped titles on Unreal Engine 4 and familiarity with Unreal Engine 5.
- Worked notably in early concept and prototyping phases of development.

Netflix offers competitive compensation aligned with market rates; for the Midwest region, the salary range typically is $150,000 - $500,000 and is determined by role responsibilities, heritage, abilities, and experience.
