Job summary

Netflix in Montpelier is seeking an experienced Art Director to lead the artistic vision for a new AAA game, developing artwork from concept to production while guiding a passionate team.

Minimum 3 years in game art production with prior art management, delivering clear visual direction across multiple genres. Strong collaboration with TD/GD/AD/PD and external contractors is essential.

Qualifications

• At least 3 years of game art production experience, including in an art manager role.
• Shipped more than one game in art-focused functions (concept, character, environment, asset, world-building).
• Proven record of delivering clear, consistent visual direction that elevates artists’ work.
• Experience across multiple video game genres and with remote/shared tasks.
• Hands-on experience with Unreal Engine 4 and familiarity with Unreal Engine 5.
• Experience in early concept and prototyping phases of development.

Responsibilities

• Define the appearance of the game, art style, and key visual differentiators.
• Iterate on core game concepts, delivering visuals and creative direction to prototypes.
• Define the art team structure, identifying roles in animation, concept art, character, environment, and technical art.
• Iterate on the project plan, informing timelines and deliverables through key art milestones.
• Develop milestones for the art team via clean pipelines and sustainable scoping.
• Define the asset production workflows, partnering with technical artists to enable efficient pipelines.
• Collaborate with other team leaders to sustain the game's creative vision.
• Mentor and guide the team, managing art team members and external contractors.
• Champion a shared visual language to unify environments, characters, gameplay features, and more.
• Draft concept art to guide 3‑D artists and teammates.
• Provide in-game 3‑D art for rapid prototyping and pre‑production exploration.
• Solve gameplay, clarity, and aesthetic issues via critiques, paint-overs, and storyboards.
• Build a world-class artist team and guide them toward growth.
