Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Environmental Assistant Project Manager to assist with project management and oversight of environmental permitting and NEPA-related projects in our Chicago Office. The role requires knowledge of federal, state, and local permitting across multiple sectors including oil & gas, electric, and renewables.

You will work with project teams on field surveys, permitting, RFP development, agency coordination, and client engagement while contributing to budgets, schedules,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related field.
• 7 years of applicable experience required.
• Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
• High proficiency using Microsoft Office.
• Experience with Primavera Contract Manager or similar change management software preferred.
• Experience in multiple market sectors, esp. electric, renewables, oil & gas is a plus.
• Knowledge of NEPA and environmental permitting requirements is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support project teams with field surveys and environmental permitting tasks.
• Assist in RFP package development, scope of work, and downstream contracts.
• Interface with agencies to obtain approvals and submit permit applications.
• Support NEPA-related project coordination, agency engagement, and documentation development.
• Maintain client relationships and help expand services to new clients.
• Manage project budgets and schedules; support risk reviews.
