Job summary

MISTRAS Group, Inc. is seeking an Ultrasonic Testing (UT) inspector to perform shear wave UT inspections on welds, plates, pipes, and vessels. You will interpret results to codes and customer specs, calibrate equipment, document findings, and ensure QA/QMS compliance.

Travel to customer sites is required. Applicants should hold Level II UT certification, have experience with manual shear wave UT, and be able to read drawings and welding procedures.

Qualifications

• Current Level II UT certification in ASNT SNT-TC-1A, NAS-410, NAVSEA, or CP-189.
• Demonstrated experience performing manual shear wave ultrasonic inspections.
• Thorough understanding of ultrasonic wave propagation, angle beam inspection techniques, DAC, AWS D1.1 criteria, and flaw characterization.
• Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, weld procedures, and inspection requirements.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and electronic reporting systems.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel.

Responsibilities

• Perform Ultrasonic Testing (UT) inspections utilizing shear wave techniques on welds, plate, pipe, pressure vessels, and structural components.
• Interpret and evaluate inspection results in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and customer specifications.
• Set up, calibrate, standardize, and operate ultrasonic testing equipment before and during inspections.
• Identify, size, characterize, and document discontinuities using appropriate shear wave methods.
• Complete accurate inspection reports, data sheets, and quality documentation.
• Verify equipment calibration and maintain calibration records.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, procedures, and technical specifications.
• Ensure inspections are performed in accordance with ASME, AWS, API, ASTM, and customer requirements.
• Maintain compliance with company Quality Management System (QMS), safety policies, and industry regulations.
• Coordinate with customers, supervisors, engineers, and quality personnel regarding inspection findings.
• Assist with developing inspection techniques and improving inspection processes.
• Mentor and provide guidance to Level I technicians as needed.
• Maintain certification records and participate in continuing education and annual proficiency requirements.
• Travel to customer facilities and job sites as required.

Requirements

Preferred Requirements

• Graduated from a Non-Destructive Testing School
• Additional NDT certifications (PT, VT, PAUT, RT) are a plus
• Experience in refinery, manufacturing, fabrication, aerospace, or industrial environments preferred
