Job summary

MISTRAS Group, Inc. is seeking a qualified UT Inspector to perform ultrasonic testing on welds, plates, pipes, and pressure vessels. You will interpret results to codes and customer specs, set up and calibrate UT equipment, and document findings in accurate reports.

The role requires Level II UT certification and experience with manual shear wave inspections, along with strong communication skills. Travel to sites will be required.

Qualifications

• Current Level II Ultrasonic Testing (UT) certification per ASNT SNT-TC-1A, NAS-410, NAVSEA, or CP-189.
• Experience performing manual shear wave UT inspections.
• Understanding of ultrasonic wave propagation, angle beam techniques, DAC, AWS D1.1, flaw characterization.
• Ability to read fabrication drawings, weld procedures and inspection requirements.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Ensure inspections comply with ASME, AWS, API, ASTM and customer requirements.
• Maintain QMS compliance, safety policies, and industry regulations.
• Coordinate with customers, supervisors, engineers, and quality personnel.
• Assist in developing inspection techniques and improving processes.
• Mentor Level I technicians and maintain certification records.

• Interpret and evaluate inspection results in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and customer specifications.
• Set up, calibrate, standardize, and operate ultrasonic testing equipment before and during inspections.
• Identify, size, characterize, and document discontinuities using appropriate shear wave methods.
• Complete accurate inspection reports, data sheets, and quality documentation.
• Verify equipment calibration and maintain calibration records.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, procedures, and technical specifications.
• Ensure inspections are performed in accordance with ASME, AWS, API, ASTM, and customer requirements.
• Maintain compliance with company Quality Management System (QMS), safety policies, and industry regulations.
• Coordinate with customers, supervisors, engineers, and quality personnel regarding inspection findings.
• Assist with developing inspection techniques and improving inspection processes.
• Mentor and provide guidance to Level I technicians as needed.
• Maintain certification records and participate in continuing education and annual proficiency requirements.
• Travel to customer facilities and job sites as required.

Requirements:

• Current Level II Ultrasonic Testing (UT) certification in accordance with ASNT SNT-TC-1A, NAS-410, NAVSEA, or CP-189.
• Demonstrated experience performing manual shear wave ultrasonic inspections.
• Thorough understanding of ultrasonic wave propagation, angle beam inspection techniques, DAC, AWS D1.1 acceptance criteria, and flaw characterization.
• Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, weld procedures, and inspection requirements.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and electronic reporting systems.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel.

Preferred Requirements:

• Graduated from a Non-Destructive Testing School
• Additional NDT certifications (PT, VT, PAUT, RT) are a plus
• Experience in refinery, manufacturing, fabrication, aerospace, or industrial environments preferred
