NC State University seeks a Japanese Language Extension Instructor to teach non-credit Japanese courses at varying levels. The role requires a minimum of three courses per year, with schedules adapting to student demand.
Instructors should hold a four-year degree and have instructional experience; familiarity with smartboard tech, MS PowerPoint, and Google tools is expected. This is a part-time temporary position with flexible hours.
The Japanese Language Extension Instructor shall teach varying levels of non-credit Japanese language courses. Instructors shall teach a minimum of one course per semester for a total minimum of three courses per year. Each course lasts fifteen weeks, with one class per week and each class lasts 2 hours. The only exception is a special weekday course offering that lasts ten weeks, with two classes per week and each class lasts 90 minutes. Based on experience and interest, instructors will be assigned to courses ranging from beginner level up to preparation for the JLPT N1 exam. Textbooks vary for each course and will be chosen by NC Japan Center management. Based on student demand Instructor availability, Instructors may teach more than one class per week, but the total number of weekly hours shall be fewer than twenty hours.

4-year degree plus 1 year of instructional experience. Will consider 2-year degree with significant relevant teaching experience. Relevant certifications are a plus, but no certifications are required for this position.
Department Required Skills
Instructors need good organizational skills in the preparation and delivery of instructional materials, management of timecard entries, and timely response to requests for information and required actions via email. Instructors need to be proficient in the use of smartboard technology and software applications such as MS PowerPoint, Google Drive, and Google Slides.
