Job summary

Goins Sweitzer Engineers and Consultants, PLLC in Boone, NC seeks a detail-oriented NCDOT CEI Technician to verify project activities against NCDOT standards on active sites, with on-the-job training and certification opportunities.

The role conducts inspections of roadways, bridges, utilities, and erosion control, maintaining daily records on an iPad, performing materials testing, collaborating with DOT staff, and enforcing safety while supporting project stakeholders.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with 5 years of construction experience or an associate degree with 3 years experience.
• Prior NCDOT Construction Inspection Experience with active materials testing certification.
• Ability to perform field measurements and conversion between units.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to work outdoors, weekends and nights if required.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Conduct on-site inspections of construction activities to verify compliance with drawings and NCDOT standards.
• Identify discrepancies, defects, or non-compliance issues.
• Maintain daily records on a company-provided iPad and generate inspection and test reports.
• Perform materials testing on soil, asphalt, and concrete.
• Collaborate with NCDOT staff, contractors, and stakeholders to resolve issues.
• Monitor and enforce safety protocols at construction sites.
• Communicate progress to project stakeholders and address concerns.
