Job summary

University of North Carolina Wilmington invites applications for the NC New Teacher Support Program Instructional Coach. This exempt, time-limited role will manage a cohort of beginning teachers across schools in the southeast, providing professional learning, individualized coaching, and aligned development as part of NC NTSP.

The position requires a current NC teaching license, a Master’s in education, and at least five years of teaching; leadership in adult learning and strong collaboration

Brief Summary of Work for this Position

The NC NTSP Instructional Coach affiliated with the Watson College of Education at the University of North Carolina Wilmington will manage a cohort of teachers assigned in one or more schools and/or school districts in the southeast region and will be assigned to these locations as needed.

The primary role of the NC New Teacher Support Program Instructional Coach position is to support beginning teachers through the delivery of the program’s three core services 1) professional learning institute, 2) individualized instructional coaching, and 3) aligned professional development. Instructional Coaches will also play an integral role in developing the broader support program, working closely with NC NTSP staff, school and district leadership, UNC system Schools of Education, and others to ensure that the web of support is effective for new teachers.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

• Current NC teaching license
• Master’s degree in education or a related field
• 5+ years teaching experience with measurable student outcomes
• Experience leading adult professional learning
• Knowledge of NCSCOS , NC Professional Teaching Standards, NC DPI Induction Program, Mentor Standards and teacher leadership standards

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience

• National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification
• Demonstrated leadership while working in a public school/and or higher education setting
• Experience and direct knowledge of edTPA rubrics and effective models of teacher preparation from pre-service through induction
• Skilled in data collection, analysis, and evidence-based decision-making
• Demonstrated talent and innovation as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, beginning teacher mentor and/or school/district leader
• Approachable, collaborative, reflective, motivating, and solutions-focused
• Strong collaboration, communication, and technology skills
• Knowledge of pedagogy and adult learning theory; knowledge of federal and state education policies
• Knowledgeable of the Teaching Fellows program and initiatives

The NC New Teacher Support Program (NC NTSP ) seeks to be a leader in university-based induction support through the belief in and practice of transformative, intentional coaching to increase student achievement by improving beginning teacher effectiveness and retention. Under the direction of the UNC General Administration and in collaboration with institutions of higher education and Local Education Agencies, the mission of the NC NTSP is to support beginning teachers through consistent, individualized, in-the-moment coaching aligned to individualized growth and personalized professional development.
