Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

The NC New Teacher Support Program (NC NTSP) seeks to be a leaderin university-based induction support through the belief in andpractice of transformative, intentional coaching to increasestudent achievement by improving beginning teacher effectivenessand retention. Under the direction of the UNC GeneralAdministration and in collaboration with institutions of highereducation and Local Education Agencies, the mission of the NC NTSPis to support beginning teachers through consistent,individualized, in-the-moment coaching aligned to individualizedgrowth and personalized professional development.

The Watson College of Education (WCE) (www.uncw.edu/ed) is agrowing college with over 60 tenure-track faculty members workingin undergraduate and master's programs in the Department of EarlyChildhood, Elementary, Middle, Literacy and Special Education andthe Department of Instructional Technology, Foundations andSecondary Education, and master's and doctoral programs in theDepartment of Educational Leadership. Brief Summary of Work for this Position:

The NC NTSP Instructional Coach affiliated with the Watson Collegeof Education at the University of North Carolina Wilmington will manage a cohort of teachers assigned in one or more schools and/orschool districts in the southeast region and will be assigned tothese locations as needed. The primary role of the NC New Teacher Support ProgramInstructional Coach position is to support beginning teachersthrough the delivery of the program's three core services 1)professional learning institute, 2) individualized instructionalcoaching, and 3) aligned professional development. InstructionalCoaches will also play an integral role in developing the broadersupport program, working closely with NC NTSP staff, school anddistrict leadership, UNC system Schools of Education, and others toensure that the web of support is effective for new teachers.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Current NC teaching license
  • Master's degree in education or a related field
  • 5+ years teaching experience with measurable studentoutcomes
  • Experience leading adult professional learning
  • Knowledge of NCSCOS, NC Professional Teaching Standards, NC DPIInduction Program, Mentor Standards and teacher leadershipstandards
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills &Experience:
  • National Board for Professional Teaching StandardsCertification
  • Demonstrated leadership while working in a public school/and orhigher education setting
  • Experience and direct knowledge of edTPA rubrics and effectivemodels of teacher preparation from pre-service throughinduction
  • Skilled in data collection, analysis, and evidence-baseddecision-making
  • Demonstrated talent and innovation as a classroom teacher,instructional coach, beginning teacher mentor and/orschool/district leader
  • Approachable, collaborative, reflective, motivating, andsolutions-focused
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and technology skills
  • Knowledge of pedagogy and adult learning theory; knowledge offederal and state education policies
  • Knowledgeable of the Teaching Fellows program andinitiatives
