Job summary

Serco Inc. in Baton Rouge, LA, seeks an HM&E Systems Engineer to support U.S. Navy Surface Ship readiness and safety of sailors. You will provide technical oversight across lifecycle management, maintenance planning, and resolution of critical CASREPs and Real Time Fleet issues.

You will collaborate with Navy Technical Community and Serco SMEs to deliver quality readiness support. Travel up to 10% and extensive coordination with TYCOMs, RMCs, SURFMEPP, and other naval activities are required.

Qualifications

• Active DoW Secret security clearance is required.
• Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years Naval shipboard engineering experience or HS diploma with 4+ years Naval shipboard experience.
• Experience may be adjusted for specialized NEC or unique Naval Surface Warfare experience.
• Knowledge of U.S. Navy ship configuration, management principles, processes, and activities.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Proficient in Navy systems eARRTS and HARs.
• Ability to travel up to 10% as needed.

Responsibilities

• Prepare machinery and propulsion system directives; review installation and repair of gas turbine propulsion and related equipment.
• Provide engineering, technical, and analytical support for HM&E systems.
• Analyze equipment failures, casualty reports, and maintenance actions; develop technical findings and corrective actions.
• Perform lifecycle engineering assessments including sustainment, configuration management, modernization, and maintenance effectiveness.
• Review and support development of technical documentation (installation drawings, analyses, procedures).
• Draft and support Naval Advisory Messages responding to fleet issues per Navy policy and guidance.
• Utilize Navy comms systems (CMP) to prepare advisory communications.
• Maintain and update records in eARRTS and tracking systems for traceability.
• Apply NAVSEA tools (eFORMS, eDFS, eSHOCK, eHAR, eLAR, Windchill MBPS, PMSMIS) to support workflows.
• Develop briefs, dashboards, and readiness tracking using Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
• Extract and analyze operational data from Navy sources to support decisions.
• Coordinate with Navy and contractor stakeholders to resolve HM&E system issues.
• Apply engineering judgment to decompose shipboard problems and propose solutions.
• Participate in technical working groups and contract-related activities.
• Prepare meeting minutes, technical reports, and status updates.
