Job Description

Oxford High School NJROTC is a nationally recognized Distinguished Unit with Academic Honors and is seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and professional Certified Senior Naval Science Instructor who is committed to making a difference in the lives of high school students and the surrounding community. The position is a 12-month contract and is open as of 1 July 2026.

Oxford is centrally located in rural Oxford, MA, just 10 minutes south of Worcester. Oxford NJROTC has an active Drill, Color Guard, New Cadet, Air Rifle, and Drone Teams.

Primary duties include program management, academic classroom instruction, drill and ceremonies, physical fitness, and guiding cadets through the college ROTC/Service Academy application process.

Applicants must be willing to work before/after school to support NJROTC teams. Weekend responsibilities required for team events and some community service.

The school is on a conventional 7-period schedule. The NJROTC Unit and Instructors have the tremendous support of the Faculty, Principal, Superintendent, School Committee, and local and state communities.

TITLE: Navy Junior ROTC Instructor (NJROTC) – High School

SALARY: Pay Rate is determined by the United States Navy.

SUMMARY: Reporting to the Building Principal, the NJROTC Instructor is responsible for developing engaging curricula including lab experiments and other scientific investigations; creating lesson plans, preparing and delivering lectures, creating and supervising laboratory activities for students, evaluating student performance, maintaining classroom records, meeting with parents, teachers and other professionals and participating in school.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Instructs and conducts training with cadets in the NJROTC curriculum.
  • Develops long and short range plans for achieving curriculum goals using appropriate materials.
  • Establishes clear objectives for lessons and formulates appropriate lesson plans.
  • Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and the personal growth of students.
  • Evaluates student progress and counsels cadets on their performance within the program.
  • Motivates and encourages students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a foundation for becoming a responsible citizen.
  • Organizes, supervises and participates in extracurricular activities for cadets.
  • Maintains NJROTC student records as required by the Department of Navy regulations.
  • Complies with Navy safety guidelines when instructing, supervising, monitoring, and accompanying cadets.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
  • Must be a retired United States Naval Officer and meet the minimum qualifications required by the Department of the Navy.
  • NJROTC Instruction Certification and Bachelor’s Degree required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to remain in a stationary position for extended periods; position oneself to demonstrate technique; move up to 25 lbs. Accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform the functions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is generally performed indoors in a school classroom environment. Duties may occasionally be performed on field trips away from the school. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
