Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc. (HII) Newport News Shipbuilding seeks engineers for the ET&D Division to analyze, design and verify structural specifications for naval vessels. The role covers metals, alloys and composites with emphasis on damage tolerance and modeling.

The position requires collaboration with design, test and construction teams, and may involve complex dynamic analyses using CATIA/IDEAS and multiple FEM tools. On-site work in Newport News, VA is expected.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 5+ years of exempt experience; Master’s with 3+ years; PhD with 0 years.
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor’s Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Responsibilities

Analyze structural engineering specs for metals, non‑metals or composites across ship systems.
Understand damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling.
Prepare technical submittals, drawings reviews, and test procedures.
Perform dynamic structural analyses using FEA tools (FEMAP, NASTRAN, Abaqus, Hypermesh).
Coordinate with design, test, construction teams and external customers (NAVSEA, EB, vendors).
Support shock and vibration qualification and foundation design analyses.
